The Father of Microsoft Empire

Bill Gates, the worldwide leader in software and chairman of Microsoft Corporation, announced that in July 2008 he will transition out of an everyday role in the company, in order to spend more time on his education work at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Still, he will continue to serve as Microsoft’s chairman and an advisor on key development projects.

Bill Gates

Born on Oct. 28, 1955, in Seattle, Gates found Microsoft Corporation in 1975 and has had primary responsability for it’s product strategy. Forbes magazine nominated him as the world’s richest man from 1995 to 2006, with 57 billion U.S. dollars, but a July 2007 report by Mexican financial journalist Eduardo Garcia indicated that Gates’ position as the wealthiest person in the world has been usurped by telecommunications magnate Carlos Slim Helú. Anyway, Gates remains an impressive business figure. In 1989, he founded Corbis, a digital imaging company and several years later ( in 2004) became director of Berkshire Hathaway, the investment company headed by longtime friend Warren Buffett. He is also a client of Cascade Investment Group, a wealth management firm with diverse holdings.
